MATHARE UNITED AND GOR MAHIA KENYA'S REPRESENTATIVE IN CAF NEXT YEAR

Mathare United and Gor Mahia will represent the country in next year's CAF tournaments.
United earned the right to play in the pretigious CAF champions league after being crowned the Kenyan league champions when they beat Red Berets 2-1 in their last match at Nyayo National Stadium.
The win ensured that United lifted the title for the first time since they joined the top league in 1998.
Mathare United, a team of undoubted quality throughout the season, were on Saturday officially crowned the Kenyan Premier League champions for their first time.

United coach Francis Kimanzi said he is not daunted by the task of playing in the money rich tournament where teams start earning millions once they reach the second round of competition.
"We are not fazed by the so called big teams. We are fully prepared for them. For me the Champions League is much easier to handle because there are many breaks in between to allow one to recover," he said in a post-match interview after United won their last match.

While United were celebrating winning the national tittle their sister club Mathare Youth were not so lucky and are one of the two teams relegated from the competition. Youth together with Nairobi based Mahakama will have to contend with participation in the lower league. Promoted to the top league is AFC Leopards and Sofapaka Fc who won both their respective zones in the Nationwide League. Gor Mahia on the other hand won the Football Kenya Limited (FKL) Cup by beating Posta Rangers in the final on October 20 and with this got the opportunity to feature in next year's Confederations Cup tournament.
